Not that you need someone to tell you that the vampire craze shows no signs of stopping in the film industry, but this week in vampire film news has been particularly…random. Random in a good way, of course. Especially if you’re a big Mad Men fan or you’re like me and you pretty much have the Clueless script memorized from beginning to end. (What, I can’t help that my most formidable years happened in the 90s!)

Today, the Hollywood Reporter reported that Mad Men writer/producer Marti Noxon has been hired to write the remake of classic vampire flick, “Fright Night.” Your first thought now might be, “Hmm can vampires drink martinis and smoke cigarettes? Would they kill their victims over shag carpeting?”

Probably not. The original “Fright” released in 1985, was written and directed by Tom Holland and starred Chris Sarandon, Roddy McDowall and William Ragsdale. Ragsdale played a teenager who discovers his neighbors are vampires. Shoulder pads and Aquanet perhaps?

If vampires-next-door aren’t quite your thing, io9.com reports that Clueless director Amy Heckerling’s latest project is a romantic comedy called, “Vamps.” All that’s known about the film is that it will be a “modern-day tale of two young female vampires living the good life in New York until love enters the picture and each has to make a choice that will jeopardize their immortality.”

Vampire Sex in the City?

Carrie Vampshaw does sound like an interesting character and Vamps sounds like a good change of vampire film scene. Most vampire films seem to be centered around an all-powerful, attractive vampire male. Aside from the fact that I’ve enjoyed most of Amy Heckerling’s work, I’m pretty excited about Vamps.

What would you swans be looking forward to watching? Vamps or Fright Night?

About SwanDiary

Swan Diary is an online community dedicated to all things vampire within society's current and past culture. Book series, TV shows, movies... you name it. If it sucks, (in a good way), we'll cover it. Swan Diary is an haven for swans -- not the ugly duckling fairytale swan, but swan as a vampire term for, "Human that loves vampires." However, we have no qualms if you happen to be a vampire who loves humans.
