It’s official. Almost a year ago today, I killed it for myself by rushing off into a frenzy of serious Twilight Saga book reading. To commemorate this, I stood in line for an hour with what seemed like most of my city. If the release of New Moon were to serve as an anniversary of my time spent with the series, I’d say it was okay. Okay, like what lazy boyfriends do for anniversaries, okay. For those considering the Twilight Saga films to be more of a first date, I’m sorry it didn’t go so well. She/He at least made you laugh, right?

Like the first Twilight film, New Moon had much to offer in terms of scenes that were unintentionally funny. Funny in that, “What, really? Really? You’ve got to be kidding” way. A lot of them had to do with Bella’s visions, dreams and nightmares. Given that there were so many of these awkwardly funny scenes, it’s hard to say if it really was intended or not. Those new to the series would’ve just experienced a feeling of unsettling confusion. Also, the acting at times…not so much a help. Just like I had predicted previously.

The confusion doesn’t stop there. People expecting an Edward to be that brooding, troubled sexy-man character, got an Edward that forced you to wonder why Bella fell for him in the first place. (I mean, aside from being painfully, obscenely attractive.) The Jacob-Bella dialogue doesn’t really explain much about their relationship either since it’s extremely difficult to translate Bella’s book thoughts and feelings into film. Fans of the saga need not any explanations for anything that could’ve been potentially confusing for the casual viewer. Despite loopholes, no fill-in explanations were necessary for me.

I feel like I killed New Moon for myself because it didn’t leave me anything to ponder or get confused about. Had I set expectations too high for this? Possibly. What I had read in New Moon is exactly what I saw in the New Moon film, sprinkled with the unintentional LOL-moments. Sure, there were cool CGI action and stop-motionish fight scenes, but that was really…just that. New Moon is basically everything a Twilight saga fan could hope for and nothing else beyond that. In that respect, I say go watch it if you’re a fan. Watch it because you’ve made it that far and because it’s fun to bond with friends over the franchise and swoon over your favorite teams. (Team Edward!!!) If not, you might have to do some homework going into this.

Regardless, let me know your thoughts on New Moon!

What a crappy score it got too, 31% haha. My time was better served with Vampire diaries last night.

I think Raizo has a chance to beat twilight, waddayathink ;)?

Hahaha oh man. So sad! The score may be low, but ticket sales won’t be. I think it surpassed a Star Wars movie in pre-sale tickets.

So much stuff on Vampire Diaries!!!

About SwanDiary

Swan Diary is an online community dedicated to all things vampire within society's current and past culture. Book series, TV shows, movies... you name it. If it sucks, (in a good way), we'll cover it. Swan Diary is an haven for swans -- not the ugly duckling fairytale swan, but swan as a vampire term for, "Human that loves vampires." However, we have no qualms if you happen to be a vampire who loves humans.
