So you guys already know Dreamworks is remaking the 1985 cult-classic Fright Night, right? I’m usually against remakes, but I have to say this one might shape up to be something I can’t wait to see, ’cause it sounds wonderfully screwed up! Here’s why.

The 1985 original (you really should check it out) follows a teen who deals with his new vampire neighbour (Chris Sarandon) by calling upon an old actor (Roddy McDowall) who used to play a vampire hunter. When Sony tried to remake it a while ago, they had the action taking place in an amusement park, but (Thank GOD) they soon dropped out. Dreamworks picked it up and instantly had a fresh pitch for it, according to ShockTillYouDrop: a meta-remake/sequel. What the heck does that mean, you may ask?.

Before Mad Men’s Marti Noxon came onboard to rewrite last month, Dreamworks’ new version was to have the teen character deal with a vampire next door, like the original, and get help from an “old” actor named …Chris Sarandon, because he played a vampire in an 80s movie called… Fright Night! Is that screwed up or what??? No word yet if the rewrite will follow that idea or not, but you have to admit - if we must get a classic 80s cheese-fest remade, that’s a really cool way to do it!
