For some, mixing the Vampire genre means adding werewolves to the fold, but for quirky Canadian filmmaker Rob Stefaniuk it means rock ‘n roll vampire musical dark-comedy road movie. and if that’s not crazy enough, insert a supporting cast comprised of Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Moby, Henry Rollins and Malcolm McDowell. That’s only part of the insanity called SUCK.
The movie follows struggling rock band The Winners, a bunch of losers who can only find fame when bandmember Jennifer, played the painfully gorgeous Jessica Paré, comes back from a mysterious night somewhat “changed”. Describing the film does it no justice at all, so let’s just say early reviews applaud its gusto and freshness. Quiet Earth’s Marina Antunes attended the premiere at this year’s World Film Festival, and says:
In today’s vampire rich media, it’s nice to see a tale that doesn’t take itself too seriously and which isn’t afraid to play with the concepts we’ve come to both love and hate. Suck is great fun, a film that entertains from beginning to end and which left me wanting for more.
Here’s a glimpse at that zany film; whatever you think of it, no one can deny it looks completely out-of-the-box!
