If you’ve been feeling thirsty for a vampire flick that doesn’t involve romance, sparkling or angsty, brooding vampires, look no further. Upcoming Lionsgate film Daybreakers offers an interesting, and kind of humanistic twist on the vampire film. Judging from movie trailers, the state of being vampire seems more of a plague-like condition humans are infected with. In the world of Daybreakers, remaining humans are harvested for blood, but one question arises: What happens when there is no more blood to drink as a result of everyone becoming vampires?

It’s up to Ethan Hawke’s character, Edward Dalton (what is it with naming vampires Edward?), to provide answers as to how to preserve vampires from becoming extinct. One way to do this? Rebuild the human race. Vampires…working to preserve the human race? That’s something new and interesting. See the trailer for yourself:

Movie is out Jan. 8, 2010. Here for the official site.

About SwanDiary

Swan Diary is an online community dedicated to all things vampire within society's current and past culture. Book series, TV shows, movies... you name it. If it sucks, (in a good way), we'll cover it. Swan Diary is an haven for swans -- not the ugly duckling fairytale swan, but swan as a vampire term for, "Human that loves vampires." However, we have no qualms if you happen to be a vampire who loves humans.
