In addition to Gina Torres, Kelly Hu, James Remar and maybe Taylor Swift, the L-Word’s Mia Kirshner has recently signed on as a recurring cast member on The Vampire Diaries. With the amount of new additions to the cast, it seems that CW means business when it comes to the Vampire Diaries. Kirshner will be playing the role of Isobel, the wife of Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis), everyone’s favorite history teacher slash vampire slayer. With the addition of Kirshner comes a semi-spoiler and more questions.

Alaric has a wife? Wasn’t he supposed to be a widow? Who exactly is this mysterious Alaric character and why is he slaying vampires?
