Okay, so I’m well aware that a vampire’s main driving force in life is the power of suck…or sucking. 2009 on the other hand, did not suck (as in was not bad) for vampires. In fact, 2009 was pretty much the year of the vampire. The following is a list of vampire highlights from 2009:

1. New Moon: Riding off the fame of its predecessor Twilight, 2009 was all about anticipating New Moon. As promised, New Moon arrived with a bigger budget, cast and effects. This year New Moon broke records for online ticket sales. Major retailers around the US pushed the franchise. Personally, I thought it was okay. Despite this, I still can’t wait for 2010’s Eclipse!

2. True Blood: Possibly due to the success of Twilight, this year’s second season of True Blood brought record high-ratings for HBO. Set in Bon Temps, Louisiana, True Blood is a drama following the life of sassy waitress Sookie Stackhouse and her dealings with Southern vampires. It’s also based on the ever-popular Charlaine Harris’ Southern Vampire book series.

3. The Vampire Diaries: Naturally, the CW network also banked in on the vampire craze with the debut of The Vampire Diaries, a prime-time suspenseful drama following the lives of high school teenagers affected by a recent return of (attractive) vampires to their sleepy town. A big indicator of this show’s popularity is the fact that they keep adding all-star actors to their cast. Taylor Swift apparently wants in.

4. Lady Gaga: Lady Gaga this year fully endorsed vampires with the release of her “Teeth” song off her latest The Fame Monster album. Not to mention all of her vampire fashion ensembles. If Lady Gaga thinks it’s a big deal, it probably really is because she’s quite the big deal currently.

5. Vampires pave the way for 2010 in film: Due to the extreme popularity of vampires, 2010 will be another epic year for vampire films. Eclipse, Daybreakers, Fright Night, We Are the Night, possibly Brad Pitt in a new Dracula movie are all set to release next year.
Know of any other ways 2009 did not suck for vampires? Let me know…I’m dying to hear about them!
