MMO gamer fans, here’s something to rejoice about: City of Eternals is the world’s first massively multiplayer online game (MMO) set in the dark, exciting world of modern vampires. Best of all, it’s free! All you need is an Internet connection (duh), flash and a Facebook account. No downloads necessary!

The game was developed by Ohai. Spearheaded by Susan Wu, Ohai handcrafts MMOs for basically…everyone. What I love most about Ohai is the fact that it’s a game company run by a woman — an Asian American woman at that. Surely, Ohai does not suck.

The basic lore behind this MMO is that it’s set in New Valencia, a vampire colony. It formed after an economist-slash-vampire predicted that vampires would overrun all of humankind if left unchecked. This economist vampire who is also somewhat of a humanist, suggested that vampires live harmoniously isolated from humans to avoid violence and bloodshed. He developed a strict code of law that vampires of New Valencia were to abide by.

Now, that was a long time ago for New Valencia. Sadly, in this day and age of City of Eternals, the rules aren’t always obeyed. Vampires in New Valencia need to learn to survive, rise through the ranks of their house, form alliances, cut through the stale propaganda of Xelco, and get their hands on human blood however they can.

Overall, this sounds pretty addicting. As appealing as this is to me, I fear that it might take over my life as do most Facebook games.

About SwanDiary

Swan Diary is an online community dedicated to all things vampire within society's current and past culture. Book series, TV shows, movies... you name it. If it sucks, (in a good way), we'll cover it. Swan Diary is an haven for swans -- not the ugly duckling fairytale swan, but swan as a vampire term for, "Human that loves vampires." However, we have no qualms if you happen to be a vampire who loves humans.
