Last Sunday’s episode of The Gates left us hanging with a last-minute discovery of a dead body—the former Chief of police. But wait, wasn’t he supposed to have retired and moved to Mexico?

This week, we follow Nick Monahan around as he does what he does best—butting his nose in places people don’t want him to butt his nose in.

What Happened This Week: Having confirmed that the former Chief was indeed murdered (as if finding him washed up from the river wasn’t enough), Nick takes it upon himself to discover the killer and finds out that the former Chief was a very bad, bad man. The late Chief had taken it upon himself to erase police records that could potentially reveal our supernatural creatures’ secrets, as long as enough money was paid, if you know what I mean. Nick gets a lot of help from former-police employee Chad Taylor, but in the end finds that Taylor was the murderer (wow, unexpected). But if you ask me, there’s more to it than that, because when a blonde witch named Devon is involved, nothing is what it seems.

Speaking of which, Devon’s been going out of her way to involve herself with Claire, claiming only she can help her with her vampire cravings. In the end, we see Claire giving in, but I don’t need any supernatural in me to know that something bad is going to happen.

Remember how I said all of their cards had been played on the table already? Well, I take that back because surprise of all surprises, sweet little boy magnet Andie herself has some supernatural in her. In other words, her mother was a succubus and it turns out Andie might be one, too. Most dads have to worry about having the sex talk with their kids. Imagine having to tell your daughter she might be, and probably is, a female demon that draws energy by seducing men in their sleep. Good luck with that one, Mr. Bates.

The only thing that was disappointing with this episode was the lack of major eye-candy Brett. The whole werewolf issue was underplayed in this week, although we see the producers attempting to touch upon it. Whatever, I’m expecting more gorgeous eyes and rock-hard abs next week.

What I Predict Will Happen Next: Andie’s dad will finally tell her the truth about her mother and slip in that Andie herself might be a succubus. Andie freaks out and runs out of the house. Hopefully Brett can come and comfort her, but maybe first she’ll go to her sorta-kinda-boyfriend Charlie (who is also super-cute, btw) and unknowingly hurt him using her newfound powers. Peg might step in to help her, but knowing Devon, she’d be there too.

The tea that Nick brings home to Sarah does something bad. My hunch right now is that Devon’s tea is a kind of mind-controlling, I-can’t-remember-what-I-did potion, but who knows what Devon’s really up to? Either way, we’ll definitely see more of her all of next week (fun stuff). And finally, I still think Chad Taylor’s innocent and Devon framed him, so maybe Nick can clear his name…then again he might already be under Devon’s tea influence by then, so who knows.

Either way, I’ll be catching the next episode this week, and you can too.

Watch The Gates Sundays 10:00/9:00c on ABC.
