Author of celebrated vampire series “The Vampire Chronicles” Anne Rice recently published a note on her Facebook page denouncing Christianity. Rice was troubled by recent controversies regarding the Church, namely its allegations on child abuse, and posted the note below:

In the name of Christ, I refuse to be anti-gay. I refuse to be anti-feminist. I refuse to be anti-artificial birth control.

In the name of… Christ, I quit Christianity and being Christian. Amen.

I guess being a writer helps when you want to make a powerful stance with words. This post was very reminiscent of world history and of Mahatma Ghandi’s famous quote: “I like your Christ, but I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ.”

According to Rice, “I believed for a long time that the differences, the quarrels among Christians didn’t matter a lot for the individual, that you live your life and stay out of it. But then I began to realize that it wasn’t an easy thing to do. I came to the conclusion that if I didn’t make this declaration, I was going to lose my mind.”

Well, to each their own, I suppose. Being Buddhist here, I’m not exactly the go-to person for Christianity, but I do know that with recent issues going around, the Pope hasn’t exactly been everybody’s favorite guy. But hey, touchy subject here.
