With September on our heels, you can bet that means the season premiere of our favorite CW series, Vampire Diaries, is fast approaching. But with the long summer in between, I’m sure a lot of you forgot what last happened at Mystic Falls (yeah, like that could happen). Either way, here’s a quick recap on season one’s finale, aka Founder’s Day.

What happened in the Season One finale: We started with Anna asking Jeremy to leave town with her. Now we know she’s desperate cause she even offered to turn him. But of course Jeremy is now confused and is unsure of whether or not he wants to be a vampire and we’re left with a very sad Anna that oh-my-gosh turned to the dark side? Just kidding.

As we know, the secret town council’s plan was to use the Gilbert device to incapacitate all vampires within a five-block radius, give or take. Deputies would then inject all the vampires with that hateful poison, vervain. Thank the lord Anna was just pretending to be part of the tomb vampires so that she could warn Damon. Damon then warned our favorite couple, Elena and Stefan. Afterwards, Elena and Stefan went to find Jeremy, who sadly was still ignoring his sister. A shame really, because we can tell that Elena truly honest to God loves her brother.

Still, we didn’t get a totally happy ending as Uncle John (hate this guy) turned on the device just as Mayor Lockwood introduced the fireworks. One word: typical. So all the vampires went into massive pain, including our beloved Damon, Stefan, and Anna because our witch-guru Bonnie here really didn’t remove the curse on the thingamabob. Alaric managed to save Stefan in the nick of time, although Damon and Anna weren’t so lucky. When they woke up, Anna grabbed John’s leg and that son of a you-know-what staked her. Hate. Him. So. Much. Oh yeah, Mayor Lockwood got his neck snapped, too.

Bonnie then decided to chant a spell that put the fire at bay long enough for Stefan to save Damon (awww), although this whole thing just wouldn’t have happened had Bonnie fixed that thing in the first place. Damon disappeared and went to Jeremy’s place, where he told him what happened to Anna and offered to erase his memories. Jeremy told him thanks, but no thanks with a lot of aw moments in between. Jeremy asked Damon if turning into a vampire would turn off their feelings and Damon left telling Jeremy that life sucked either way (broken hearts much?). In an utter act of depression, Jeremy then downed the vial of Anna’s blood and that bottle of Elena’s pills. He then fell into a deep sleep, but will he die? Will he turn into a vampire? We don’t know!

So as Damon was leaving, Elena came home. What started out as a simple thank you turned into a hot makeout session, and can I just say one thing? IT WAS HOT. But of course, it was Damon and not Stefan (although in my opinion Damon is definitely more swoon-worthy), so Aunt Jenna got all up-in-Elena’s-face about it. Elena goes into the kitchen where that hater Uncle John was and all of a sudden, she grabbed a knife and chopped off all his fingers. Oh. My. God. And if that wasn’t enough, that wasn’t even Elena in the first place! It was Katherine! Yes, back from the past Katherine!

So now that you’re all caught-up on what was up and happening in Vampire Diaries, brace yourself for Season Two. Three words: don’t miss it.
