This week’s episode of The Vampire Diaries was heartwrenching, both literally and figuratively. (SPOILERS AHEAD!) Alice discovers that the ‘Vampire Alamanac’ and boyfriend Slater, has been staked in the heart. Tyler experiences an emotional breakdown over a video/journal capturing the excruciating moments of Uncle Mason’s first werewolf transformation. You can’t blame the guy, I would be a hot mess if I found out it took more than 6 hours to transform. Jeremy, for the love of Bonnie enters Katherine’s lair to intercept the moonstone on her behalf. Naturally, he ends up stuck with Katherine and it breaks our heart to watch him being fed on by Katherine.
Luckily his stupid attempts were not in vain. He somehow managed to toss the moonstone past the sealed entrance. This entire move trumped the Salvatore brothers plans of getting Klaus off their backs and saving Elena by breaking the curse themselves with Bonnie’s witch help. Did I mention that Stefan gets trapped with Katherine in the process of rescuing Jeremy? At the same time, it didn’t really help that Elena hacks into Slater’s computer (with ‘KristenStewart’ as a login password) to get a message out to Klaus that she is indeed, the doppleganger. Come after me, and what not.
Personally, not the smartest move Elena could make. She argues that she did it to protect the people she loves, but in this episode it only did much to make the situation worse since literally, everyone she loves is involved. Such is the selfish nature of Elena — could you expect anything less? Damon, however, seems to be really riled up about this and we hardly see Stefan and his reactions. Mostly due to Stefan being stuck with Katherine, but this I’m sure was on purpose. This tells me that the storyline is pushing Elena and Damon together.
Elena and Damon aren’t the only two that the storyline is favoring to be couples. There’s Elena’s Aunt Jenna and Alaric being awkwardly caught ‘the next morning’ in his boxers. Bonnie and Jeremy appear to be very close to each other due to the situation at hand and Tyler and Vicki have been spending a lot more time bonding with each other over their supernatural being-ness. Pulls on the heartstrings, doesn’t it?
While I’m on the subject of matters pertaining to the heart, Elijah appears in the final scene to rip the hearts out of Klaus’ minions sent to capture Elena. According to Elijah, Elena is meant to be kept safe. And we as The Vampire Diaries fans are meant to be kept scratching our heads. What’s the disconnect between Elijah and Klaus — aren’t they homies? Why does Elijah want to protect Elena?
What did you think of this episode? Any ideas about what Elijah’s plans for Elena?
