Before I start this recap/review of The Vampire Diaries Season 2, Episode 13: Daddy Issues, I’ve just got one thing to get off my chest: Michael Trevino (Tyler) is dating Glee’s Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina Cohen-Chang) (!!!) All is well for this werewolf/goth couple. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for a vampire/werewolf. On this past episode, Tyler confronts Caroline about their relationship and the death of Mason. (SPOILER ALERT AHEAD!)

Tyler was met with double heartbreak to know that Caroline still has Matt in her life and that she never came clean about the truth of Mason’s death. In Caroline’s defense, she lied to protect Tyler. Tyler becomes upset and leaves Caroline. Meanwhile on the werewolves front, Jules meets her wolflover Brady in the woods where it’s known that their plan was to take Tyler away with them. At this point, after all that Tyler’s been through, leaving from Mystic Falls doesn’t seem like too bad of an option. Caroline on the other hand, as any other good friend should be, is concerned with Tyler and turns to Stefan for help on reasoning with Tyler.

Despite Caroline’s efforts, Jules ends up spraying her in the face with vervain and shooting her to keep her captive in the woods in a trailer with Brady and other wolf friends. She calls Stefan and asks for Tyler in exchange for Caroline. The exchange obviously doesn’t go smoothly and they opt for Damon’s ‘bloodier’ method. And boy was it bloody — he ripped a wolf’s heart out of his chest! Amidst the action, Tyler is hesitant to release Caroline from captivity! Never have I felt more compelled to slap him!

Enter Jonas, whose warlock badassness causes the werewolves to freeze. He delivers this message to the wolves: “Tell your friends to get the hell out of town.” All in the name of keeping the Elijah/Elena pact of course. Speaking of which, earlier in the episode John tells Stefan as he’s about to rescue Caroline that he’s all about protecting Elena. What’s a Vampire Diaries episode without a freak twist? At the very end of the episode, we find out that John is scheming to break Catherine out of the tomb! My exact thoughts then were, “What in the what!!!” Tyler also is shown returning to the wolf trailer following a conversation with Caroline that resulted in her saying she never wants to be friends with Tyler.
