Last week’s episode of The Vampire Diaries (Ep. 18 “The Last Dance”) had to be one of the most annoying episodes of The Vampire Diaries I’d seen. Although it was annoying, it still managed to be good at advancing the plot further to keep me on my toes and psyched for this week’s episode. Before I get on to what I thought was annoying, this is just a brief recap: (SPOILERS AHEAD!)

Klaus in Alaric’s body infiltrates the former-Salvatore-now-Elena-Gilbert-home and finds out about the plans to use Bonnie as a weapon against him. At a school dance (yes another Mystic Falls High event), Damon overhears Bonnie and Jeremy arguing about Bonnie’s decision to be the weapon. It could, after all, kill her. Jeremy goes to Stefan for help and Stefan tells Elena. Elena of course, confronts Bonnie, but it doesn’t phase her. Damon, Bonnie and Elena are encountered by Alaric in a hallway. He spills the beans, and Damon tells Elena to run off and ask Stefan for help. When Elena returns, she finds that Bonnie and Klaus are in a classroom for, “The Showdown.” Watching through the window of a sealed door, they witness Bonnie die from the stress that trying to kick Klaus butt has put on her body.

Moments later, we find out that this was all just a ruse. Bonnie faked her death to fool Klaus into thinking that his battle was half-over. Bonnie awakens from the fake death in the old house (home of the 100 dead witches). What’s one to do when they’ve awaken from a fake death? Video chat with your best friend Elena, of course! You might be wondering how Jeremy managed to have a laptop on him and a stable Internet connection. Product placement here, was the answer. Product placement on The Vampire Diaries hasn’t been as obvious as it was in this episode with AT&T’s MiFi. And boy, was it an awkward moment. Bonnie had just come back to life and all of a sudden MiFi is something relevant in the moment. This and the argument between Bonnie and everyone regarding her decision to be “the weapon” is what I found annoying.

Later that evening, Elena confronts Damon saying that she understands why he did what he did with Bonnie. Damon admits to Elena that if it ever came to saving her or Bonnie’s life, he’d always choose Elena. Let us all pause for an “AWWWWWWWWWW” moment. (Pause.) AWWWWWWWWWWW.

Elena then slips off into the basement and pulls the dagger that’s keeping Elijah dead out of his heart. I suspect that she’s going to ask Elijah for help in getting rid of Klaus. I can’t wait to watch what they’ll cook up. Also, when will Klaus in the real Klaus body come forward? Will the real Alaric survive from this? So many questions to be answered…

Anyone watch this episode? Thoughts?
