The last two episodes of The Vampire Diaries has been one rollercoaster ride filled with crazy twists and turns. Luckily for you, this serves to condense the crazy for you. Be warned, this recap is filled with spoilers. Episode 19, “Klaus” finally saw the appearance of, you guessed it– Klaus. Aside from his appearance, we’re slapped with one big doozy of twist. (SPOILER ALERT AHEAD)

The Sun and Moon Curse, the driving force of The Vampire Diaries’ core plot up until now turned out to be a fake. Despite being a fake, there’s still an actual curse. Turns out, The Sun and Moon Curse was created by Klaus and was used to help him draw out a wolf and vampire needed for the real curse at hand. The real curse at hand is one placed on him. Klaus is actually half vampire, half wolf with the wolf side repressed by powerful witch spells. Klaus goal is to lift the curse to become an all powerful wolf/vampire being.

In Episode 20, “The Last Day” Elijah spills the beans on how to lift the curse. Klaus needs to channel the power of the moonstone, sacrifice a vampire and a werewolf and drink the blood of the doppelganger. Elijah whips out an elixir claiming that it’ll save Elena during the lifting of the course. Of course there are serious trust issues from everyone not on team Elijah. Damon force feeds Elena his blood using Elena turning into a vampire as the only resort to protect her from Klaus.

Klaus’ warlock Maddox visits Carol Lockewood and uses a mind control spell to get Tyler to come back with Jules to visit her in the hospital. Immediately after that, Maddox along with Greta kidnap Caroline and Tyler. Damon on the other hand, realizes that if Klaus doesn’t have a werewolf he cannot complete the ritual, buying Elena another month. He uses Katherine’s help and rescues Caroline and Tyler from the tomb and kills Maddox. Tyler starts transforming and attacks Damon. Damon saves himself, but tells Caroline and Matt to go to the Old Lockwood estate.

After Elena’s last day as a human, Klaus picks her up for the ritual and is met with Greta to lead her through the woods. There Elena sees Jenna dead on the ground, but not really dead — just in transition into a vampire! Dun, dun, dun! Then the episode ends in a cliffhanger with Damon realizing that he’d been bitten by Tyler in Damon’s attempt to rescue Tyler and Caroline from the tomb.

Intense stuff, though I’m sure something will come through to prevent Damon from dying from a wolf-bite.
