Just when I was dying from the lack of Mystic Falls High School Events in season 3 of the Vampire Diaries (there’s like 50 a season), episode 5 opens up with “Senior Prank Night.” What’s traditionally known as a fun-filled night of seniors playing pranks and having a good time, Senior Prank Night quickly turns into one of the most intense, nerve-racking (and not fun) episodes of the season.
Klaus shows up to Senior Prank Night not at all happy with why his hybrid turning efforts have gone sour and demands that Bonnie helps him find a reason why all his would-be hybrids keep dying. As an incentive, he starts feeding off of Tyler. Bonnie and Matt run off to frantically search Bonnie’s grimoires. When nothing happens, Bonnie realizes she can ask Jeremy to consult the dead on how to save Tyler.
Jeremy at this point is actually out unconcious with Damon and Katherine. When he finally awakens, Damon and Katherine have a conversation on who Klaus and Rebekah are running from — turns out there’s a vampire killer that’s asleep that may be the answer to everything. Unfortunately, they don’t have a name for this vampire killer. Jeremy talks to Anna the ghost and gets a name: Michael. Aside from that, apparently Michael is not one to mess with.
Talking to the dead doesn’t come as easy for Matt. Matt has been getting weird ‘feelings’ that Vicki is trying to contact him but it isn’t until he drowns himself in the school pool and almost dies that he gets to get in touch with Vicki. Vicki tells Matt do deliver a message to Bonnie: Hybrids are dying because Elena is still alive. Once this is known, Bonnie frantically tries to contact Jeremy.
While this is going down, Stefan shows up to the gym trying to prove to Klaus that he’s on his side and that Elena means nothing to him. Klaus, unconvinced compels Stefan to feed on Elena if Bonnie doesn’t deliver him a solution in 20 minutes. At the end of 20 minutes, a chase starts with Stefan trying to run into lockers and bang things to keep him from feeding on Elena.
Next thing we know, Klaus is in a science lab where the rest of the gang is with Tyler. Klaus gives Tyler a vial of Elena’s blood which successfully completes the hybrid transition. In walks Damon and just about the time that Klaus moves in to kill Damon, Damon interrupts him by mentioning that he knows who Michael is. Klaus throws Damon off to the side leaving with Elena.
Elena wakes up in a hospital. Under her care is a compelled nurse instructed to drain the blood out of her. Damon rescues her and the two wind up back at the Salvatore mansion attempting to drown their sorrows in bourbon. In walks an evil Stefan who we find out has been ordered by Klaus to keep a watch on Elena.
The episode ends with Jeremy and Katherine about to awake Michael the Vampire Killer.
While this was quite an excitement-filled episode, the last scenes indicate that the fun is just about to start. Never a dull moment with Vampire Diaries!
