From Ningin: Thanks to the 2010 New York Comic Con (NYCC) and New York Anime Festival (NYAF) taking place this past weekend, I’ve never had a weekend more packed with anime, manga/comics, cosplayers and video games. To put things more into perspective, at least 77,000 fans were in attendance — this event is easily the East Coast’s largest for anime, manga/comics and video games! Right in the middle of it all was me, a comic con attendee of only moderate passion for anime, manga/comics, cosplay and video games. And no, I did not dress up. Despite this, the comic con sensory overload and the exhaustion from walking what seemed to be miles of comic con space packed with everyone and their cosplaying hamsters, I managed to have myself a great time. The upcoming Bluewater Comics’ “Fame: Robert Pattinson” comic book is yet another item on my list of “Things That Aren’t Really Necessary in Life.” E! reports that this comic book will chronicle our beloved bed-head’s rise from obscurity into handsome, brooding, sparkling vampire character notoriety. Granted, I love R-Pattz with every ounce of my being but I don’t think he’s all that worthy of an actual comic book. Michelle Obama, Lady Gaga has one…what do you people think? Worthy of a comic? Younger generations and folks who weren’t watching American public television in the 70s are in for quite a treat, while others will surely smile at the memory: A singing vampire who sucks the juice out of vegetables instead of necks, and likes to take a bath in caskets (but his shower in a grave!)… Although that’s not even the doozy: it’s the Oscar-winning actor who played him! Now that you’ve spent the last of your paycheck on that perfect gift for that “sucker” in your life, it’s time to turn your wallet toward looking your tastiest for that bloody Christmas party. ‘Cause you’ll never get a second chance to make a last impression… More »

For some, mixing the Vampire genre means adding werewolves to the fold, but for quirky Canadian filmmaker Rob Stefaniuk it means rock ‘n roll vampire musical dark-comedy road movie. and if that’s not crazy enough, insert a supporting cast comprised of Alice Cooper, Iggy Pop, Moby, Henry Rollins and Malcolm McDowell. That’s only part of the insanity called SUCK. More »

Why try to re-invent the Vampire myth or explore its many possibilities when you can just go bonkers with the granddaddy of them all? At least that’s what Summit appears to ruminate, since bloodsuckers have done great things for them lately (over $500M great things…). But just to make sure they keep raking it in, the studio got Brad Pitt involved as well. More »

I’m trying to stay away from the Badass Vampires vs Romantic (aka Sparkly) Vampires debate, because I’m happily married and wanna keep it that way. But there’s no use denying that many gore fans would like to see a return to the trend of a kind of vicious and violent bloodsucker that burns under sunlight. More »

Vampires have not always been depicted as the suave, seductive and often European beings we mostly now know them to be. And contrary to popular belief, Bram Stoker didn’t come up with such an embodiment either; his version was and is the most widely circulated, but itself the fruit of earlier inspiration. Who then is the real father of Edward Cullen, Bill Compton and Damon Salvatore? More »

An immortal who lives way up in the North Pole, dressed in bright red and only comes out once a year - at night! If that ain’t a Vampire, well at least Santa should be able to accommodate those who like ‘em. And as the calendar peels away to the day of boozing with the relatives until they all fight or pass out, let’s have a weekly look at how to make your Holidays truly “suck.” First up for this week: Gifts to offer a Vampire Lover. Other than a poster of a shirtless Edward Cullen. Unfair for the rest of us guys… More »

Seems quite logical that the current wave of appreciation for all things vampires would reach one of the most popular mediums of the last decade, graphic novels. And like many entries before it, VLAD THE IMPALER uses real-life history to bring a riveting tale of darkness. GOD I sound like a screwed-up Avon salesman… More »
