Vampires have not always been depicted as the suave, seductive and often European beings we mostly now know them to be. And contrary to popular belief, Bram Stoker didn’t come up with such an embodiment either; his version was and is the most widely circulated, but itself the fruit of earlier inspiration. Who then is the real father of Edward Cullen, Bill Compton and Damon Salvatore? More »

An immortal who lives way up in the North Pole, dressed in bright red and only comes out once a year - at night! If that ain’t a Vampire, well at least Santa should be able to accommodate those who like ‘em. And as the calendar peels away to the day of boozing with the relatives until they all fight or pass out, let’s have a weekly look at how to make your Holidays truly “suck.” First up for this week: Gifts to offer a Vampire Lover. Other than a poster of a shirtless Edward Cullen. Unfair for the rest of us guys… More »

Another day, another sign that vampires are no joke in current pop culture. Our latest example would be Timbaland’s latest single off the upcoming Shock Value II album, “Morning After Dark”. There’s much debate on the lyrics referencing vampires in a line that states, “When the cats come out to play the vamps come out to play.” To some people, “vamps” sound like “bats.” The release of the music video pretty much affirms that the lyric is “vamps.” More »

Seems quite logical that the current wave of appreciation for all things vampires would reach one of the most popular mediums of the last decade, graphic novels. And like many entries before it, VLAD THE IMPALER uses real-life history to bring a riveting tale of darkness. GOD I sound like a screwed-up Avon salesman… More »

From Flauntme: You may have noticed lately that Twilight is this huge, international hit. No? Really? Well then, I don’t know where you’ve been. But the people over at DuWop have noticed and released this limited-edition Twilight Venom. More »

Personally, I have nothing against the idea of a romanticized vampire, which is a concept much older than Edward Cullen; after all, the first literary vampire was a refined and suave nobleman. But just as old if not even more is the idea that vampires are savage beasts with no shred of humanity but much more akin to a cross between Predator and Colonel Kurtz. Such as the one in upcoming Horror/Action flick King of Vampires. More »

It’s quite possible that the latest addition to The Vampire Diaries cast, Kelly Hu, might just be the first Asian vampire on the small screen. According to E! Online, she’ll make her debut on Jan. 28 as an apothecary named Pearl. Apothecaries can be vampires, right? The kind that sell vervain on the black market, perhaps? While it’s not clear if she’ll be among the living dead or plain human, I really think it’s time that we see a vampire of Asian descent. So far, most major Hollywood vamps have been of the European variety. More »

The Twilight Saga might have had as many fans as detractors, whether it be the novels or the (as of yet) two films, there still seems to be an emerging consensus between the two factions that the fourth entry of the book series, Breaking Dawn, has to become a motion picture. More »

It’s tough being a commercial vampire. Due to the current society we live in today and all the new technology that comes along with it, being a vampire just isn’t enough it seems. You have to be attractive, show off a caring attitude for humanity by refraining from human blood and you have to sparkle and out-queer each other. More »

From Ningin: What’s better than a British person with a British accent speaking Korean? New Moon star Robert Pattinson, speaking Korean with a British accent. Personally, he can speak whatever language he wants and it’d still have the effect of busting my ovaries. The SBS reporter can attest to this after having recently interviewed Robert Pattinson about New Moon. More »

About SwanDiary

Swan Diary is an online community dedicated to all things vampire within society's current and past culture. Book series, TV shows, movies... you name it. If it sucks, (in a good way), we'll cover it. Swan Diary is an haven for swans -- not the ugly duckling fairytale swan, but swan as a vampire term for, "Human that loves vampires." However, we have no qualms if you happen to be a vampire who loves humans.
